POY 2009 - My Favorites of the Year

Lots of media sources are compiling their Best of 2009 and even Best of the Decade galleries as we fast approach 2010. I thought I’d join in the fun by putting together my own favorite photos i’ve taken this year. Its a good exercise for any photographer to do, giving you the opportunity to reflect on your work in the past year and how you may learn to improve from them.

So, follow the jump link to see my Photos of the Year from 2009. They’re not necessarily the “best” images in terms of execution or action pictured, but were certainly what I thought were cool or funny or interesting. The pictures are presented chronologically through 2009.

Enjoy and Happy New Year!

Basement studio premiere part2

Just a quick update that the second part of my photoshoot with Andy has now been uploaded to my online magazine: misterding.com

First shoot in basement studio

So I recently cleaned out the empty room in my basement and built a bare-bones (and dirty cheap) home studio. The walls were already white, the floor is a nice dull painted concrete surface, and there are lots of power plugs on every side of the wall. Only downside is the relatively low ceiling, 7 ft, so I know I’m going to be limited to small projects…

To try it out, my buddy Andrés Cacciamani (who’s a natural talent) graciously agreed to model and help me stretch the new studio’s muscles…no pun intended =p.

Look out for a full gallery feature of Andy’s talents soon on my other little site: MISTERDING.COM

Vanity Fair recreates Hitchcock’s iconic scenes

I found out about this a month ago, but I just happened to get a copy of Vanity Fair’s January 2008 issue today featuring a fantastic photo series recreating iconic scenes from Alfred Hitchcock’s most famous classics, all with today’s hottest stars.

There’s a video online of some of the behind-the-scenes of photographer Norman Jean Roy’s shoots. And you can read the article about the project and the ridiculous extent they went in recreating some of the scenes.

It’s all just fascinating, and seems aptly appropriate the day after the Oscars.

Seth Rogen in North By Northwest

Marion Cotillard in Psycho

Emile Hirsch and James McAvoy in Strangers on a Train

Scarlett Johansson and Javier Bardem in Rear Window

Charlize Theron in Dial M For Murder

Naomi Watts in Marnie

Renée Zellweger in Vertigo

Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. in To Catch a Thief

Tang Wei, Josh Brolin, Casey Affleck, Eva Marie Saint, Ben Foster, Omar Metwally and Julie Christie in Lifeboat

Photographer’s “Guilty-pleasure” Reality-show

I’ll admit it, I’m watching Bravo’s new “Make Me a Supermodel” reality model-search show. Just all the camera shutter sound effects, Tyson Beckford hosting, CO-ED model contestants, and sappy cheesy reality style—makes for some great TV… haha. The photoshoots are kinda interesting from a photog’s stand point, seeing really what you shouldn’t do as a fashion photog…

What else can we get in this writers strike that’s better?
