Pack those camera batteries in your carry-on
As of today, Jan 1, 2008, the Transportation Safety Administration has new regulations that prohibit passengers from packing any loose lithium-ion batteries in their checked luggage on flights.
Passengers will no longer be able to pack loose lithium batteries in checked luggage beginning January 1, 2008 once new federal safety rules take effect. The new regulation, designed to reduce the risk of lithium battery fires, will continue to allow lithium batteries in checked baggage if they are installed in electronic devices, or in carry-on baggage if stored in plastic bags.
So this means for us photographers, we can pack our extra camera batteries in plastic baggies and include them in our carry-on bags. Since I never like to check anything anymore when I fly, and if I have to, I check only my expendable cloths and stuff like gifts or monopods, hopefully this new regulation won’t be too much of a nuisance.
